From the window of my boarding house, I saw 2 helicopters, in the
distance . . .
"Will they attack Camp Crame?" I was thinking.
I started to cry. I thought filipino soldiers were about to kill their filipino
brothers in the streets of Manila . . . |
 |
For days, after the election people took to the streets by foot and by motor
vehicle. Cars, jeepneys, buses, and trucks carried hordes of folks, both
rich and poor alike, shouting "laban!" in support of Aquino before
and during the elections, and then towards the end, for joy and elation
that Marcos had left the country. . . |
 |
Pro-Marcos forces were sent in to take back control of the crucial
TV broadcast station of Channel 4. Meanwhile, pro-Laban radio broadcasting
was urging for people to come and surround the station to deter the soldiers.
More "People Power" was needed. We went and I found myself ducking
from the hail of bullets coming from helicopters above. |
 |
When results of the elections come in with differing results --- one side
declares Ferdinand Marcos has again won, the other that Corazon Aquino has
now won, the Army becomes divided.
In Camp Crame, helicopters with soldiers defect to the "other side",
the side standing against Marcos and the reinstatement of his Regime. |
 |
EDSA Highway. The place where people lay themselves in front of army tanks
begging the soldiers not to fight their fellow filipinos. The place where
tens of thousands of people came to the call for People Power and to make
their stand for their country's freedom . . . |
 |
On EDSA, outside Camp Crame, people stand themselves.
They are making a human barricade between the anti-Marcos soldiers and any
threatening pro-Marcos forces. They shout out their support: "Laban!"
and " Cory!" |
 |
The soldiers inside Camp Crame trust the strength of People Power protecting
them. So the key figures come out into the street to proclaim their cause
and to thank the people. The people shout their names: "Johnny!
Johnny!" & "Fidel! Fidel!" |
 |
Some people in the crowd have a yellow banner with the words "God
Save The Philippines."
To me it says \more than that . . . |
